If you have ever researched how to set up your 4WD for touring or if you haven spent anytime on those Facebook forums you will know that is is a legit big topic. I thought I would kick off this page with our set up and do a bit of explaining as to why we choose to do things a certain way or picked particular bits of gear.
- Darche Intrepidor Roof Top Tent. We opted for a RTT for a few reasons. I was always really interested in them and found them to be a really clever use of space and storage, not to mention they were off the ground. I also had no chance of getting Maddy in a swag. We had previously done some camping in a conventional tent, to be honest it was such a hassle and I couldn't go back to that, so RTT it was.
As you probably know the market for 4WD and touring gear is saturated with different suppliers and products. We had quite a few options of brands and prices for our decision to get a RTT. I opted for Darche for the simple reason that it is where I sleep and because of that, you can't put a price on comfort in the middle of a storm while camping. I wanted something high quality with good after sales service and warranty. After about 10-15 trips we are nothing but satisfied customers with the Darche Intrepidor RTT.
- Adventure Kings Awning
Originally we started with an Adventure Kings 2.5m X 2.5m awning on the passenger side of the car. We chose this one because we were new to the world of awnings, did a lot of beach driving and heard that it was common for awnings to blow away and rip off the car, and wanted to see how it worked for us and our set up.
A few years down the track and we have now just fitted a Rhino Rack Batwing 270 degree awning. But we will cover that in another post soon.
