Full disclosure this is a place that Maddy and I just can not stop coming back to, we love it. Situated just north of Port Stephens, NSW and about 3 hours north of Sydney, It isn't too far to get to after work on a Friday afternoon. For this trip we chose to stay at Jimmys Beach Holiday Park. We were going with people of varied camping experience so this seemed like a good middle ground with drinking water, showers and toilets etc. It did not disappoint at all! Short walk to a pristine bay beach on one side and local shops (include cafes) on the other side. There is also a huge bit of beach driving to be done in Hawks Nest. Be careful as the beach is split between NPWS and local council. So if you want to drive top to bottom you will need 2 permits. The local news agency sells permits and can explain when the zoning starts and stops etc.
